So today was a particularly hard day at work. I had two "regular" rooms and then had two big "cardiac" rooms. Needless to say, I had some sick patients. One patient in particular was circling the drain as we call it and not doing well. I was under a lot of stress while trying to stabilize the patient so the patient could be moved to ICU. I didn't notice any cramping or anything, but at around 3 PM, a co-worker of mine pulled me in the med room and told me I was bleeding. I looked down, and there was blood between my thighs.
I was wearing white pants, so it really stood out. It looked like a lot, but when I ran to the bathroom, it didn't seem like all that much. I had been wearing a pantyliner since I had been spotting, just in case. It seemed that with all my moving around (and probably the fact that I bought CVS brand which seems to have very little adhesive on the back) the pantyliner had folded over in the front and what bleeding had occured ran right over the shiney edge of the pantyliner and all over my pants. The only thing that made me feel any better was that there was no clots or tissue seen at all. Terrified, I changed into a pair of stretchy post-surgical underpants and put a huge pad on, and then changed into a pair of physician scrubs.
I called the OB's office and spoke to one of the nurses. She told me that I could certainly come in, but that there is nothing really they could do. She said that doing an ultrasound could further anger my cervix, so she doubted Dr B would order one at this point. She also said that since we did a quant level on Monday, that it would be too soon to recheck it. She did however say that I should get off my feet. She and I agreed that I would watch the bleeding and if it seemed like it was heavier than "spotting", I would call her first thing in the morning. Then my charge nurse put me in triage where I can sit more than I can when in the back.
By 6 PM, it seemed to have gone right back to a very light spotting only noticable when I would wipe. I was still blotchy from being so nervous, and one of our lab girls offered to run a quant level for me, of which I obliged... of course! It came back right before 7 PM and my quant level was 105.26, so it had gone up since Monday! I just wonder what the sudden burst of bleeding meant.
My charge nurse today, who happens to work at the OB's office sometimes seems to think that it was my level of stress. She said that it happens when your on a period too, if your stress increases, it can increase your flow. So, hopefully that's all it was. I see my OB again on Friday.
Please keep praying for us. At this rate, I'll be in a mental hospital by the time the first trimester is over!
