So I went in today for the scheduled follicle check by ultrasound and the trigger shot of hCG. What wsa suppose to happen is that the ultrasound would look great, and then I get the trigger shot. The shot works like this; the shot causes your LH to surge which causes the forced release of an egg from a mature follicle. From the time of the trigger shot, you have 18 - 48 hours to "make things happen" so to speak. When your follicle releases an egg, it causes a surge of progesterone, which makes your BBT rise and lets you know ovulation has occured. You want during this time frame (18 - 48 hours) for sperm to meet the egg in the fallopian tube so they can start creating baby and travel to the uerine lining where it should implant and begin growing as a little one :) That's what's SUPPOSE to happen.
What actually happened today is that the ultrasound showed that my follicles aren't the right size yet. The OB believes that the more mature the follicle, the better chance of survival once it's released during ovulation. He likes to see the follicle size 2 cm or greater. Currently I have the following:
Right Ovary:
Follicle 1 - 1.3 cm x 1.3 cm
Follicle 2 - 1.5 cm x 1.3 cm
Follicle 3 - 0.84 cm x 0.70 cm
Left Ovary:
Only 1 Follicle - 1.6 cm x 1.5 cm
There are supposedly more smaller immature follicles, but these are the ones they are watching and think have a chance to grow to the appropriate size. So much for a valentines day trigger :( He wants to see me back on Wednesday to check the follicles again and then hopefully give the trigger shot.
I just want these follicles to grow, grow, grow!!!!
