I had a serious tearing type feeling across the whole lower abdomen. That would be followed by a painful hardening over my whole uterus. The hardening would last a very short time, but felt like an eternity along with the cramping and tearing feelings. I was so nauseated, I just felt terrible. My husband was by my side, trying to help me reposition, trying to get me to relax, and bringing me Phenergan for nausea that Dr. B had prescribed early on. This has been the worst pain I ever remember feeling.
In an attempt to reassure us that baby was okay, Scott pulled out the Doppler and found baby's heartbeat. He did a great job finding it without a lot of searching and it was strong and steady at 140 - 142 beats per minute. It did help to ease our mind about baby's welfare, at least the baby wasn't stressed. But the pain was relentless and unbearable! After a few hours, it was easing off and I was able to lay in bed and relax a little.
We went to Dr B's office when it opened and they did an ultrasound. Baby is looking good, but the fibroid is growing. Dr B is certain that the pain I was experiencing was being caused by this stupid fibroid. He said that the fibroid is growing which is causing extra pulling and stretching of the uterus, which in turn irritates the fibroid causing cramping. The cramping then irritates the uterus enough that it's causing contractions (that hardening of the uterus). Wonderful! Dr B said he's expecting the pain to get much worse and is also expecting the fibroid to double in size over the duration of the pregnancy. Great.
They gave me the shot they mentioned a few appointments back. Hydroxy-Progesterone is a hormone shot to help prevent pre-term labor. It's given intra-muscular in the hip :( It's a thick medication and it burns going in (It also burns later on. Not fun!). I'll have to get this shot every week from now until 32 weeks.
I'm still in pain, but nothing as severe as it was this morning. I'm also not having any bleeding, so that's good. They were not able to see baby's sex today during the ultrasound either. I guess we're teaching modesty early - LOL
